getid_linux outputs different machine ID in docker container

Discussion in 'Licensing and activation' started by Yen-Chih Chen, Oct 30, 2018.

  1. I got different machine ID by using getid_linux in a newly created Docker container.
Thus the purchased mjkey.txt cannot activate Mujoco in the Docker container.
Is there any way to resolve this issue?

Hardware-locked activation keys do not work with Docker. This is because Docker containers do not have a unique hardware signature.

If you want to use MuJoCo with Docker, this is only possible with an institutional license which has unlocked keys.
  3. Is it possible to modify the getid_linux to bundle with the MAC address of the ethernet interface?
In this manner, the unique hardware id can be seen both inside and outside the Docker container.
As the MAC address is a unique hardware ID, the personal license remains the same restriction scope as before.
Since some of my jobs are run in isolated Docker environments, it is particularly important for me to get the Mujoco work inside Docker.

MAC addresses can be modified in software, so they are not suitable for hardware locking.
